What should I know about you before I start working here?
When I met you we discussed that in a law office everything you see or hear about is very confidential and that its essential to keep the information you see private. Also you should know that in both a personal injury law office and a doctor's office, you are dealing with people who are injured and often elderly, so you should speak to them with respect.
Is there anything you wish you'd realized about the world of work when you were my age?
When I was your age, I wish I realized that people notice things about me and my behavior that even I don't notice. For example, future employers look at how clean and organized an applicant's car is, as this will be reflection of how they treat the office and work area. Also people notice the way you talk and treat others, not just how you treat them. Your future boss will watch how you interact with others and that can influence who you are perceived. Also remember that its better to ask questions and learn early on rather than learning from mistakes in the future.
Do you consider a career in this area satisfying? In what ways?
Yes, I do- in so many ways. You are helping people get compensated for their injuries and you deal with a system that is so foreign and scary to one-timers who are going through the same thing.
What is a typical work day like?
Dealing with people, paperwork, and going to court as well as alternate dispute resolution such as mediation and arbitration.
What other advice do you have about working here?
Just be yourself, ask a lot of questions, speak with respect to the employees as well as clients and patients you meet.
What other personality traits, skills, or knowledge are important here?
It is important to be curious so you can get the most of the internship. Try to pay attention to as many details as you can.
What questions did I not ask yet that I should have?
None- I think you covered them all when we met and through this!
