Self-advocacy is used all the time at my internship. Not only have I used self-advocacy but so have my co-workers. At the surgeons office I always make sure if I don't have something to do then I ask one of the girls if there is any way I can help them. They then begin to rely on me to do most things if I show them that I can do it and I am always asking to do something. At the law firm I always have something to do. If I don't before I even can sit at my desk and just read or write, Guy or Marianne will always make sure their is something to do for me. If they don't then I go to my co-workers and ask them if their is anything I can help them with. They usually will have something.
Yes of course I am following the advice in "How to be an intern everyone remembers". I always dress very nice and my co-workers at the law firm always say I look nice. I always bring a pair of shoes that goes with my outfit, that I can either dress down or dress more nice. It depends on the occasion and what is happening at the office. I feel I could work on bringing my notebook more often to meetings that may not seem very important but will be the most informational. Other than that I feel I am doing well on everything else.
